    Default CDTI 150 swirl pots

I've got a 55 plate 1.9 CDTI 150.Over the past week or so it has been hard to get it to rev from low down 1000 to 3000 rpm.Once it's reving above this it seems to pull ok.After reading posts on here I decided to check my inlet manifold and found that the bar that runs across the 4 swirl pots has come off. Will this cause the problems I am getting?

Mines has been off for about 6 weeks at least. If it is having difficulty low down I would say the egr valve is the guilty party.

I took it to my local indipendant garage yesterday and they pluged it in and found no fault codes. They saw the bar hanging off,but were unsure about this,as they don't see many of these engines.

Not a good sign, don't take it back there

It depends if the swirl valves were open or closed when the bar fell off, Gazza's were probably open which is why he's having no problems, but without the bar there is no control and they could close - if that happens the car is undriveable.

Usually the fix is a new inlet manifold and control unit - unfortunately being a 55 (and out of manufacturers warranty) you may need to foot the bill of about £900 (inc. cam belt) for a new one to be fitted, unless you have another warranty on the vehicle..?

This happend to one of my freinds. He went to Vx who wanted £900 to fix. As he is tighter than a ducks arse he just removed the swirl flaps or jammed them open somehow. I have driven his car a few times and in all honesty the difference between his and mine with my flaps working as normal is not much. Mine is a bit pokeyer at low rev,s. He hasent noticed any difference in fuel economy and there are no fault lights showing. TBH to save £900 i think i would do the same...

Am I wrong in thinking that this is one of the most popular cars. Everywhere I look I see 150 CDTi or at least thats how they are marked. They all seem to be taxis too.

I've had the problem diagnosed by Vauxhall as being the swirl pots,so it therefore needs a new inlet manifold.I've only had this car for 6 weeks and the garage where I brought it from are saying that my 3 month warranty covers PARTS ONLY and NOT labour!!!!
