Default To Any Police Officers out there

A friends sister has had her rented property broken into and the electric company has changed her metere to a pre paid card one.

This person was well behind on their elec bill.

Noone was present when they broke in... not even the landlord.

Well the locksmith re locked the door with a new lock.
This was all at aprox 4pm... Well My friends sister has had to wait til 1030pm till the locksmith came out to give her the new keys.

Well the locksmith then gave her a bill for around £325 .... obv as u can imagine she doesnt want to pay it.

So where does she stand?? Was a warrant needed to obtain access or police present etc etc.

The Company concerned is British Gas.
    cheers

If its not here debt and it can be proved that she didnt run up the debt ie date of first residency tehn she wont have to pay the fee BG will.

A Warrent is needed for this and a police officer would have been present.

This happened to me wuite a few years ago when I lived with someone who blatently refused to pay the bills. I paid my rent with all bills included. I came in froma night shift one day and after a few hours I heard people downstairs. I went downstairs witha metal pipe expecting trouble to be met with 4 well built blokes in the room and someone by the door. I didnt know what jase had got into and just shouted at them. The guy by the door was a copper present me the warrent. I said it wasnt me showed him my passport and told them to lock the door on the way out and went back to bed. They werent as generouse as to fit a meter there and then though it took them 3 weeks to come back and fit a prepayment meter in the middle of winter

It could result in the landlord having grounds for eviction. In my tenancy agreement it states all bills are to be paid and locks are not to be changed. It was BG that called the locksmith out and the bill should be forwarded to them, just dont be surprised i fhtey add it to the debt

there is no way you could pass the bill onto the landlord because it's "his new locks and doors". The person who failed to pay the bill and caused them to come out and change the meter caused the situation and would be liable for the cost.

A good site that'll help you with things like this: www.consumeractiongroup.com
