They can become too oily and contaminate MAF sensors and the like - if its done regularly then just a tap and a hoover should suffice. You would only need to oil it yearly to be honest, but just not too much (the oil helps with the filtration).

Only last week cleaned and re-oiled my filter using the kit you can buy, follow what it says on the box and there should be no problem, just do not get carried away when you re-oil,I left my filter overnight so it soaked well in then any excess was wiped off using kitchen roll.

Leave it for a good while, if possible put it somewhere that a draft can blow through it i.e a window. I left mine overnight

As said just follow the instructions on the recharge kit, remembering not to go mad when you re-oil.
I usually take a couple of days to do mine, wash through & leave overnight to dry out before re-oiling, then leave overnight again for the oil to soak in.

I did my K&N fiter on my St before i sld it, basically do what it says on the tin.
Spray the cleaner on the dirty side of the panel leave for around 20 mins to aggitate most of the crud off, then turn it to the clean side ( the side that faces the inside of the air box, so as not to push the grime into the pleates ) then using normal pressure tap water ( NOT JET WASH ) rise all the crud off, leave around 24 hours to dry, then re-oil with the spray using very sparingly, then leave for 1-2 hours see if there are any white spots on the pleats if so do a spot spray.
Leave for 24hours to settle, wipe excess off the rubber surround and:-
