    Default Auto gear changes

The gear changes on my 07 Vectra C don't seem to be correct, for example the gear changes whilst accelerating gentley are as follows.

    1st to 2nd 10mph. 2nd to 3rd 20mph. 3rd to 4th 40mph. 4th to 5th 50mph 5th to 6th 60mph.

As you can see 3rd to 4th is 20mph when all other changes are 10mph this seems wrong to me, as when driving at 35mph the engine feels to be revving to high for the speed.

Main dealer tells me this is correct but i don't beleive it.

When changing in manual mode 10mph changes feel right!!

    My questions are:-

Is this gearbox adaptive? If it is it should it change to my style of driving?
Is it possible to change the gear change points?
The previous owner used it for towing is this relevant?

    The AutoBox ...

    - Yes, it IS adaptive
    - Not possible to reprogramme
    - Disconnect the battery and it will go back to 'default' before it starts learning again
    - As far as I can see there isnt even a sport option (on my VW you could depress the accelerator once before starting, which would invoke sport mode)

For a modern car, the autobox is not that 'clever'. The manual mode works very well though - I use it on roads where I know the gearbox will get confused (roads which are hilly and undulate).

Vauxhall use a Toyota (Aisin) auto gearbox, which are ok .. but not comparable to my VW Passat Tiptronic at all. As long as its reliable, i'm comfortable to live with its constraints though (most of my miles are motorway miles).

    Hope that helps.

Mine stays in 3rd alot of the time in 30mph zone, it bugged me a first and i used the gears to go to 4th. TBH i don't notice it anymore and my mpg doesn't vary much at all.

It will depend more on engine speed and load than road speed. This will also be very dependent on the engine you have as well.

Mine is an early (so 5 speed) 3.2V6 and under light acceleration this can be in 5th at 30 MPH due to the amount of torque this engine produces.

As said above it is adaptive but I've found that only really tends to pick up on twisty A-roads when having a bit of fun, where it will drop a couple of gears on acceleration out of corners after some spirited driving.

I have never been that happy with my auto box (1.9cdti 150 auto).

In my opinion it holds onto 1st for too long, but doesn't stay in 2nd for long enough.

The box NEVER goes into 4th below 40mph, but I think this is good because, around town at 30-40mph you are always in a gear that will pick up and go straight away.

It does seem quite a crude gearbox compared to the competition.

The torque of the diesel, and the crudity of the autobox is not the best combination to be honest (esp 1st to 2nd). I test drove the diesel auto and couldnt get on with it.

But at least you get better mpg than 2.2 auto owners.

By the way ... a remap may have a postive impact on the gear ratios. Why not get in touch with SuperChips and ask them ... they are a friendly and helpful lot.

My 2.2DTi changes into 5th at 30mph...It's annoying because if I accelerate ever so gently it uses tonnes of fuel.......
