2.2dti 03 Smoke on start up

Firstly car is vec 2.2dti 03 120k,Issue is that when the cat is left for long periods of time,on start ups it plumes out white/grey smoke.Do'snt smell oily,maybe a bit diesely.

This smoke only happend now n then but now its every time its left for a long period.

I have seen similar ppl with smoke issues on forum but none,exact to mine.Anyone shed any light please?????

Sounds like unburnt diesel. If it clears fairly quickly, then I wouldn't worry about it. It Could mean that a glow plug isn't working correctly.

Mine dose it occasionally, it runs fine so not worried (yet)

mine gives a bit of a puff of white smoke on start up then its fine , its done 129k BTW

mine also does this, and is something to do with the glow plug side of things

My Vec B 2.2DTi used to do this. Never got round to actually fix it as it ran fine after the puff of smoke

Sorry to resurrect a thread,but i found that if i turn the key to position 2,pumped the accelerator peddle a few times then started the the car,,,there was no smoke whatsoever.

Anyone else had this??????

The Vectra accelerator pedal is fly-by-wire, so it would depend on if the engine management computer takes any notice of you pressing the pedal when the engine isn't running.
