    Default Gambling.....

    Whats the point..... ?

About a year ago I was invited, by a friend, to go to the casino for the first time.

OK, I thought, never done it before, so I decided to go along to see what it was all about...

Now, my philosophy in life is that no-body gives you something for nothing. I do the lottery on rollover weekends, but thats it. I'd rather earn my money, and have a nice story to tell if people ask where it came from..

We all work hard... why spend 'give it away' to a Casino...

    I just don't get it ????

If its the adrenaline rush/thrill of winning, surely that thrill can be achieved elsewhere... and at least you would have more to show for it.... (experience jumping out of a plane etc etc....)

    What do you think....?

not a gambler myself but i did enjoy going to the big casinos in vegas and watching folk throw away fortunes..i watched one guy play blackjack for $2000 per hand and he was losing lots!!

I did enjoy a night we had in the casino in glasgow only punted £30 but it was a real adrenaline buzz when playing, so i can kinda see how people get 'caught' by it

We once went to Las Vegas ..... I'm not a big gambler, but we bought £30 worth of tokens and won £500. I cashed them in and used as deposit for next holiday.

Today I was walking through Morrisons ... and bought a scratch card (very unusual) and won £12 .... I pocketed the cash and went home

I spent about 6 years in the pub trade, 4 of which was management, I developed a bit of a problem with the fruities. Used to put roughly £400 a month into them.

Fortunately, part of my salary included the machine income which was normally around £800/month so I actually saw a net gain. Until I moved to a pub on a different deal and didn't get the machine income....

For the Xmas do last year they decided to go to Southend Casino. None of us had ever been before and were all apprehensive about the whole evening. We were expecting to walk in there not knowing anything but the boss gave us £100 to play with.

For the first hour we hung around a roulette table watching others, then one of us got brave and had a go. Gradually we all had a go and really enjoyed the betting experience. Didnt play poker or anything like that. Most of the evening mixing with people or on the roulette table. But now we've learnt Texas Holdem and is a good game. We play once a month around someones house. We rotate whos turn it is each month. Its not a really serious game but an enjoyable get together outside of work to relax and have some fun.

My wife is one of the Managers in the Grosvenor casino plymouth, and the amount of people that moan " that was our food budget" or "that was my mortgage money" is second to none..
You may win once, BUT its a game for losers..The only ones to win are the casinos, why do you think they are their?
If you are to go to a casino, take only what you can afford to lose, if you win, bonus, leave "up"...(But im on a winning streak.....lol)

I go to York races once a year, I take £50 and come back chuffed if thats whats in my wallet at the end of the day - usually it is, but only from 1 win out say seven. Gambling is fun and its different once in a while, but its not for me often

I look at it like this. Round the lads house I'll bring about £40. I get drinks, snacks and an evening playing till 3 in the morning. So £40 for a nite out once a month. Not bad
