Parking Sensors! Help!

Installed some front parking sensors yesterday - Just 2 at the front.

Wired to a switch on dash, and powered from a ign live from behind the glove box. Neg terminal is the car battery neg, (but have also tried a standard earthing point in the engine bay)

All the "gubbings" ie, the box and such are in the engine back, stuck to the battery. The buzzer is behind the glovebox, and the wire goes through the rubber grommit below the wiper arms area.

Now this is the weird bit.

Everything works perfectly, when the Ign is on.
When the engine is running, it goes into a frenzy.. constantly buzzing.

At first I thought it was the earthing point, so I moved it from the battery to a suitable bolt in the bay, with same results.

Any ideas? Else I'll have to fit in a 9v battery and run it off that... grr...

(ps. managed to fit the sensors in the bumper without removing anything... quite chuffed!)

If it works ok from an independent power supply I would look at filtering the feed, something as simple as a Zener diode in the pos may cure it.

Just got home and wired it up in its current location to a 9v battery. Same thing occurs. Works fine when ignition on, goes mental when engine running.

Must be power noise somewhere.. but can't figure where.

Sensors in front bumper ---> brain box next to battery--->speaker and power going through grommet to power behind dash. Can't be anything simpler!

Guess I'll have to rip it all out again next weekend and do each step bit by bit.. damn pain.

try wrapping the power feed a couple of turns around a ferrite ring (maplins)

Might be the wrong circuit you wired from...I mistakenly powered my rear sensors (part of a 6 sensor kit - 2 x front + 4 x rear) via a change-over relay wired from the grey/black wire in wiring harness by near side rear lamp assembly in the dull evening light thinking it was the white/black wire for the reversing lights. The grey /black wire was in fact for nearside tail light... result was when drove the car the relay chattered/buzzed rapidly...found the mistake next day in daylight...changed feed to the white/black reversing light wire....problem solved......

I've run the power from an ign source behind the glovebox, which runs my phone charger, mp3 charger etc without any problems. I've put a switch on the power to the sensors so I can control when they're on / off, but with the engine on it just beeps insanely...

I'm going to remove it all at lunch time and start again, keeping everything in the engine bay to test if it's a wire locating problem. Failing that I'll try a ferrite ring, or get a pro out to fit em'.

I will try to upload a wiring diagram which I drew-up for my 6 sensor kit...not meant to be a how to...just what I did.....Decided to 'modify' the instructions/guide supplied with the Gadgetman 6 sensor kit to suit what I wanted. Also took a load of pictures of what I did.....a picture is better than a 1000 words as the saying goes........did but have always found it difficult to up load em as I use Mozilla Thunderdird.....

TIS OKAY!.. yay.. got to work early, had a fiddle under the bonnet. I had stuck the gadgetman box to the car battery, and all the wiring was too close to the main + lead from the batt. Moved it about 4 inches toward the front of the battery cover, behind the grill, and all working fine now.

Just too damn close to a power source I guess.
Will order a rear kit this week and see how I get on... might stretch to the invisible strip one.....

I wouldnt go fot the invisible strip ones, bet the set of 4, easy to fit, all in about 1.5 hrs,

I Agree get the set of four dead easy to fit the holes are marked out for you on the inside of the bumper comes with the drill sorted!
