    Default EGR valve?

If i stand and watch my wifes 56 plate astra sri cdti 150 when shes driving it it is now puffing out excessive amounts black smoke just as shes about to change gear or just as she changes gear. I've been out in the car a run and it only does it with me on pick away after changing gear or if i change into 6th from 4th (at about 40mph) and floor it. When i do this however there is also severe turbo lag.
The air filter is dirty as the car is due a service in august when the manufacturers warranty is also up.
I changed the air filter for a cleaner 1 although it wasn't brand new (it was my brothers which he removed from his astra before replaceing with a k&n) and the cars still smokey. I've also put a bottle of diesel injector cleaner into the half tank of diesel which is in the car.
The wife also reckons the car is down in power but when i drove it the only time i noticed any lack of power was when i changed upto 6th from 4th at 40mph.
I've also noticed that the car & spanner light sometimes flashes on and stays on for about 2 seconds then goes off again after starting the car up.
What do you 's think is it the EGR valve?
It'll be going into Vauxhall this week.

get them to remove and clean the egr, what mileage has it done? plus i would say your expecting far to much changing up to 6th at that speed, i only change ie 4th/40 ,5th/50+ into 6th at 60 any less i find is labouring.

clean the EGR yourself, an hours labor at the stealers will be crippling compared to cleaning it your self. £5 for a can of carb cleaner from Halfrauds or about £4 from a local motor factors. Follow the thread on here, really easy and worthwhile job.

    I ment if i change upto 6th from 4th at 50mph.
The cars not yet 3 years old and has only done 32000 miles so it's still under warranty.

We've had the car in 2 different vauxhall dealerships this week (as the 1st didn't seem interested guess where it was?). The 2nd dealership had the car for 3 hours. They had the car on the computer and they couldn't find anything wrong!
They said we should just "keep an eye on it" then said the car needs 2 front tyres (which it will soon), and needs the front brake pads replaced (which we were told last year buy the dealership in Lanark but when i stripped everything down the pads weren't even halfway worn!)
Anyway i'll check the pads tomorrow and will be putting 2 tyres on the car shortly.

Hi, at the point of replacing my Egr valve on a 2.2dti model. £320 at the dealers £170 from CS parts. Have cleaned it previously and it helped, though it still cuts the engine and as this is not safe. A replacement seems to be the best bet.
As yours is under warranty, I'd get them to change the valve if possible.

Checked the brake pads at the weekend and they're only half way worn.
Is it any wonder i've lost all faith in vauxhall dealerships?
