Is silver a difficult colour to match???

I've got a few rust spots on my new motor, and the front bumper and bonnet have suffered from the usual stone chips.

The rust spots are probably about the size of a 5p piece and each door has one and there are three or four on the tailgate.

I've been to a bodyshop and he told me he can sort it, but has said that he will need to do each whole panel (door) as well as the bonnet and bumper so it all matches.

The car as it stands does look fantastic from six feet away and has a lovely shine and lustre to the paintwork. Is it worth having this level of work done just to sort a couple of rust scabs?

I do like waxing and polishing and making the car mint and I am afraid that I will lose the lustre and may end up with the panels looking like they don't match! and end up looking like the rear passenger door on this....

Have you seen any of the guys work? Ask him how good the paint match will be, as said before though its a pretty good colour to match if you know what your doing

I've got quite a few chips and scratches on mine, and am looking to take it in soon for some work. I know exactly how you feel. You really try to look after the car and keep it perfect, but it's almost impossible if you use it every day.

From my past experience, all 'professional' bodyshops are able to get a perfect paint match/finish. If money isn't an issue for you, take it to a big reputable company, like a VX stealer, as you would have more of a comeback should there be a problem. I've taken mine in for the odd bit of bodywork in the past, and they've done an absolutely perfect job, but it's not cheap.

I did have a scuff repaired by an independent too, as the dealer's price was almost quadruple. I was a little nervous at first, as I was worried he may not be able to do a perfect match, but took a chance. I'm glad I did, as the finish was just as good as the dealers, and I can't see any difference in paint match/finish, so wouldn't hesitate in using him again.

I've even patched up a rust hole on an old Montego myself, using Halfords own brand paint, and even that was a perfect colour match. It wasn't a great finish, as it was slightly raised above the rest of the paint, but then I'm no professional.

Think it all depends on the bodyshops ability, but Silver is very hard to match.

with a colour like metallic silver you cant just paint one panel or the results will be a as above.... ie bad!

You really have to blend the colour in,if you were painting a rear door you would really be looking to paint (or at least flick half way up) the front door and rear quarter aswell.Depending on your painting talent you may even have to do the full side.
