Default I'm really starting to dislike the Ford Mondeo...

And it's not because I had a 1999 Mondeo 2.0 GLX for six months and it was a piece of junk; The reason why I'm starting to get sick and tired of the Mondeo, it's because it's a hugely overrated car.

"It's a driver's car", "Reliable", "As good as a BMW 3-Series", "Good value for money".

    -I beg your pardon?

It' can't be reliable. The Mk1 is exctinct of the roads, the Mk2 is going the same way and go check every customer satisfaction survey; The Mondeo is always below average. In fact, the Mondeo is not much better than a Vectra or a Passat in terms of reliability.

It can't be a driver's car. It drives well for a front-wheel-drive barge, but it's not a driver's car by any stretch of imagination. Not even the ST220 can be considered a driver's car; Still got a lot power going through the front wheels.

And if I were a BMW 3-Series owner, I would take offence to have my car compared to something that has ZERO street cred.

It's ****** expensive! Ford is out of whack to charge £33,000 for a fully loaded Titanium X Sport 2.5 5 door hatchback. You can either buy a base Jaguar XF 3.0 V6 Turbodiesel, something German with an Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz badge, a Passat CC GT V6, Saabs, Volvos and etc. Or a fully loaded Insignia Elite NAV 2.8 V6 4x4, which still would cost a grand less than the similarly equipped Mondeo.

So you may disagree with all of I've just said, but I really needed to get it off my chest.

    Thank you for your time.

There's a ST220 at work, and a couple of ST-TDCi, and they're woeful. The seats are crap, the suspension is rolly-polly-pudding-and-pie, the brakes are taken off a Fiesta or something equally crap. Plus they catch the speed bumps in the yard despite running stock suspension. They don't drive any better than the boggo 1.9TDi Octavias, and the vRS Octavias are light years ahead in every way.

And it's very likely the Insignia's engine will actually be putting out closer to 160hp.

Take a look at the Ford's diesels too - miserable old junk. Even the 2.2TDCi is weak and feeble.

I have read comments about the Insignia 1.8 being slow and that you should avoid the 1.8 at all costs. Fair enough. It's a big car and 138 bhp is not enough. But, I wonder how bad the Mondeo 1.6 is... If the new Focus already struggles to move with the same 1.6 engine, can you imagine a 1435 kilogram barge?

Nice to see I'm not the only one who dislike Mondeos. I've never had to live with one, but quite often drive one for work, and they're not that great.

Don't get me wrong, they're not that bad either; what annoys me is that how good people keep saying they are, when in reality are no better than the equivalent competition.

People think I'm biased because I drive a Vectra. The thing is, is that I was never obligated to own a Vectra. I bought the Vectra because I felt it was the better car, and if I had preferred the Mondeo, then I would have bought a Mondeo, and would be saying the exact opposite to this on the Mondeo forum.

Another thing that annoys me, is that people always seem to get their opinions from a certain programme on BBC, hosted by a 6'5" clown. Why can't people make their own opinions. The amount of people that say T** G*** said this, and T** G*** said that. Unbelievable!
