Default heater blower, flaps, motors ??

I have a fault with my heater at the moment and I believe (after reading a lot of threads on here) that it's probably some kind of motor that controls the air re-circ flap.

basically I only get air blowing from vents when the re-circ is ON. So I'm guessing it's probably stuck. On top of that the blower seems to vibrate a lot when I turn it up to 3 or 4. and on 4 there is also a click.

I think I need a re-circ motor thingy and maybe a new blower motor. I also think I will get robbed by the dealer for original parts. But if I buy used, what is the latest year of vectra I can take the blower motor and air re-circ servo out from without having compatibility issues (newer part numbers etc) ?

Also I'm confused about how many servo's or motor there are on the actual heater system, and what do they do ?

    please help

The recirc" motor has a tendanct to loose one of its teeth and start to make a clicking noise when you switch it off. I am wondering if there is ( and probably is) a servo motor that changes the direction of the air, "ie" to the screen or the cabin. When I was searching for info for my "knackered" recirc motor, I found a diagram with all the heater parts "etc" but I can not remember where I found it, whether it was on ebay or google.

The click when switching to fan 4 is the overide relay that bypasses the resistor pack - NORMAL.

The recirc flap actuator us mounted to the side of the blower body and attaches by 2 screws. The rear of which is a PITA to undo.

It is all behind the glovebox,- 5 screws and removing the glovebox light will remove the glovebox (3 screws along the top trim, and 2 are underneath the box)

Slide out the whole assembly and you will see the fan motor mounted to the bulkhead.
On top of the fan motor is the re-circ mechanism.
On the side of this mechanism is a small black box about an inch wide and 3 inches square. This has a plug and 2 wires - this is the recirc control actuator.
Turn ignition to position 2, set flow direction onto floor (ie NOT windscreen) and press the recirc button. The flap should move in a rotational front to back movement, directing ingested air from either through the bulkhead (pollen filter located behind) or from the cabin (from effectively behind the glovebox when refitted).

If this flap moves when you turn on and off re-circ, I would check the pollen filter for blockage.

The recirc motor is about £60 from vauxhall. I refitted mine yesterday, and only used the front mounting screw to secure it, there is an additional mounting peg for location, but I couldn't be arsed refitting the rear screw (PITA)

    thanks ste,

I think I need to make some time and sort this out. It was raining silly yesterday and all the glass in the car steamed up. couldn't clear it without turning a/c on. can't get clean air from outside into the car.

how do you check the pollen filter ? i.e where is it ?

Open the bonnet passenger side and it's under the wipers area. Pull out the filter to look at it and check the drain hole underneath the filter housing isn't blocked.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the screw on the re-circ mechanism? Any fancy tool for it?

It looks a ***** to get at and I can see some bleeding knuckles and choice words chucked at it to get it out?

    Ta.

I have heard but others have managed it without any special tools...I think. Plasters at the ready.

thought I'd update this thread. turned out to be a clogged up pollen filter which was not changed at the last service changed the pollen filter and job done. checked all the flaps and servos while I was at it and all seems fine.

although now I have another problem. the heater is only blowing luke warm air. I noticed that the engine temp was running below 80, so got the stat changed and the engine temp sits just under 90 now. but still no HOT air.

seems like the matrix might be on its way out.

one thing I haven't checked for is air locks in the system. read lots of threads on how to do this but can't get my head round it. my engine is the old 1.8 petrol (2002)

How do I go about checking for air locks and removing them ?

    help please.

I would first check that the air control flap is moving and if necessary 'help' it too - just to see if it is actuatoion or matrix blockage / air locks.

Unless you have disturbed the coolant system, I would doubt that air locks suddenly appear.
