You probably all know this, but it's worth re-saying...
With the price of fuel going through the roof...people are stealing number plates off cars... fitting them to their own cars, filling up with petrol / diesel then driving off from petrol stations without paying.

To avoid losing your number plates, either fit tamper proof number plate screws, or them new number plates that "crumble" if you try to rip them off a car.

I speak from bitter experience as mine were stolen on Tuesday morning...
I can't use the car now until I can afford to buy some new plates...
I'm not allowed to drive around without proper number plates fitted.
according to the P.A.D. desk at G.M. Police.

The ones that crumble are £50 IIRC...maybe try drilling tiny perforations in the back that don't quite go all the way through the width of the plastic, so when feevs try and pull them off they break along the lines you've drilled.

My definitely are theft proof as I changed them yonks ago for ones without screw holes to give a cleaner look. They're stuck on with that spongy body tape stuff, so they ain't going anywhere in a hurry! lol The very reason you've said was another reason why I didn't like the ones that screw on - too damn easy to pinch.

What if you slice behind them with a blade as you pull the plate away? Remember, feevs are cleverer than us normal folk.

I would think that if you use "VERY" sticky body moulding sponge foam, then it is likely that you will rip the rear laminations from the number plate, rendering it useless...as it will all discolour and wrinkle etc.

Just a thought though....Don't discuss how it could be done (stealing plates) as some thieves are opportunists and others look at sites like this for useful blagging advice!! (We don't want to tell thieves how to get free parts off our pride and joys do we!!)

I'm sure they could if they wanted to, but it's gonna take them longer and therefore more chance of being caught. When I had to take a plate off, forgotten the reason why now, it took a fair bit of effort and time.

which is exactly why i despair when people post pics of their cars on the interwebs without the vrm disguised... it just saves thieves the hassle of driving round the streets to find an identical car to clone...
