    Default 2.2 direct sxi HPFP

Hi every one, Today my 2.2 vec 54 plate (petrol) gave up the ghost, and died on me. Problem-: High pressure fuel pump on the side of the engine may be knackered or the seal between the pump and the engine cam, as there was black fuel comming out of the small pressure valve on the top of the pump, also there was a smell of fuel comming out of the engine via the oil filler cap. does anyone have or had a similar problem and how much will the repair cost, any assistance would be more than welcome thank you

Sadly, this one is going to cost a fair bit, around 500 quid or so, possibly more.

The good news is that there is now a new standard of pump with improved internal seals so it is less likely to fail again, but please be warned that depending on how the pump failed it is possible for debris from it to have got into the fuel system which could cause a replacement pump or even other parts such as the fuel rail or pressure regulator to fail. A fuel rail is probably in the 700 quid range (if I remember correctly) and a regulator about 70 quid. Ensure that you ask about this, and get the system cleaned out to remove anything nasty.

Sorry for the bad news. If you are less than a year out of warranty it is possible that Vauxhall may be prepared to make a contribution to a failed part replacement. Ask about this! A 54 plate is likely to be outside that as latest registration would be February 05, but it's worth a try!
