Default Strange hose near airbox - should it be connected

Had a look under the bonnet to see if I can suss out why the veccy isnt quite right - see other post

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83712

I have spotted a hose that isnt connected at one end. The hose is down between the radiator and the airbox, it is around 3/4" diameter and underneath a larger hose. The other end of the hose seem to go into the bottom of the airbox.

Is this a breather pipe or should it be connected?

Here is a photo (not very clear I know) its the black hose sort of in the middle of the photo

Any help would be gladly received.

    Arrow "Spare hose"(1.9CDTI 150).

Hi.I found the same pipe this weekend when I removed the air box to fit a missing section of pipe ducting that fitted to the intake scoop.
There's a hole near the bottom side of the outside of the air box which this hose seems to connect with, and a notch in which it located with and was a ***** to get in. I used a fat headed screwdriver and fairy liquid. That sorted it. ("Get in").
When it's located in the air box, because of its position and the way it shapes round and down, its then in position to connect naturally to some sort of breathing pipe coming up from the bottom of the engine.(The pipe that I found in my engine bay has a small stub/branch piece which is blanked off).I am pretty sure its the same type of hose.Hope this helps.Felixx.
