    Default Its gone!

    Hi everyone.

Well I've had an interesting few days. Aircon packed in over the weekend, so off to the stealers on Tuesday for a regassing. Driving around with the windows down I noticed my clutch was making a racket when pressed. So I asked them to look at that as well.

Early afternoon and I get a phone call from one of our fleet managers. Stealers are reporting a duff clutch, a duff flywheel and various other bits that need replacing, with a quote of £1,500. On a 25 month old car with 92k on the clock which is due off the fleet at 100k, they decided to bin it rather than authorise the repairs. So its gone! I've got a Mondeo as a replacement. Sorry.....

Has to be said that I have become increasingly disillusioned by VX. Shoddy dealers, poor build quality on both my Vectras, and on my last one a series of ever more serious faults. I haven't done that many miles in it - it shouldn't be collapsing like that!

Anyway, thanks for the help and advice over the last few years!

The Mondeo is a nice car. I've been looking at the new version as i prefer it to the new Insignia, as i can get hold of second hand ones!!! :-)
Hope ya have more luck with it than your Vec.

Will do. New car is a Mondeo Edge 1.8TDCI 125 with a 5 speed box. Initial impression is size - it feels substantially bigger than the Vectra inside and an ocean-liner vs a rowing boat compared to the Insignia.

Have only done 50 miles in it so far, but it feels very planted on the road. Steering more weighted than the vectra, feels better connected to the wheels. Power wise I've dropped 25bhp and one gear. The 5 speed box works very well with revs to mph about the same as the vectra in 6th - remember that I had an Exclusiv 1.9cdti 150. Its not got as much umph but thats OK.

I had decided on a Mondeo as a replacement anyway, but didn't get to pick as my company has 15 spare cars from a sales team that has gone. Would have picked a Zetec in white, got an Edge in solid Blue. Its cleaned up when I washed it tonight - just needs some polish.

Well you might say that based on the track record but major mechanical failures at that mileage in this day are laughable when many car makes can go twice that without problems. I traded my last car at 170k having had only suspension problems (and given the state of Fife's roads they ARE to be expected )

FWIW I think that Vauxhall's build quality is a sick joke.
