Default Postal voting - or secret ballot?

Anyone else here do postal voting? I have my forms which require me to sign a named statement which also bears the numbers of my local and euro ballot papers - thus the votes are linked to my name (and a bar code - who knows where that goes).

I cannot believe that this information will remain confidential when it seems frequently to get lost on trains or taxis or succombs to freedom of information requests.

    Hi vxvirgin

Are you serious about this, what difference does it make if we know how you voted (most people can't even be bothered!) and if we know how you voted what difference would it make? What risk do you think this has to you, me or anyone?

Or are you voting for the green party and worried you might be 'outed' as a Prius owner

Anonymous voting is a pretty fundamental democratic feature, isn't it?

As an occasional presiding officer all I can say is that whilst your vote is secret there has to be a method to investigate if there appear to be irregularitities. The info isnt all kept together so unless there has been an issue to investigate then the ballot papers and other details are kept separate. HTH

Thats reminds me, I forgot to send my postal ballot papers - I've got to drop them off at the polling station this evening.
