    Default Lowering again

Having finally made the decision not to go with coilovers and instead to go down the B6 and Eibach route for my V6 CDTI a number of issues have come up which mean i currently cant afford to do it all in one go.

If i was to do the springs only on standard shocks what difference will this actually make to the handling?

My reason for the upgrade isn’t based on aesthetics and is instead based on wanting the best setup i can get hence wanting to go with the b6's.

So based on this will changing the springs make much difference or am i better just waiting till i can afford to do it all?

    All opinions welcome.

In addition to this just out of interest how many of you have changed your springs \ shock purely for cosmetic reasons and how many to improve the handling of your car?

    Cheers as always

well i've changed it because of the handling. My car felt like a waterbed in the corners.. Fitted Koni springs all around Koni shock in the front Bilstein's in the back and i'm loving it also changed the Arb bushes, drop links lower arms...Love the handling at the moment

What spec is your car? i.e. is it an SRi/Elite etc. If you put lower/stiffer sprtings onto Elite shocks it will help, but you still won't get the full benefit compared to changing the shocks as well. Also, you'll put more work onto the shocks which will affect their longevity. So for the best result on non-SRi spec you really want to change both.

If you put lower springs onto the SRi then they'll still be more closely matched as the shocks are stiffer on the SRi - so you can get away much more easily by just changing the springs on the SRi.

I did it mainly for the handling. I have the Elite so the suspension was wallowey to to say the least on cornering! The cosmetic difference was also a nice secondary benefit.

Sorry thought i had stated i have SRI.

Yeah i know its time. Things keep coming up and having the V6 CDTI means my options are limited with what i can go with.

Think i will go with just the springs for now and when the shocks go ill upgrade them then.

    Cheers all,

Yep, with the SRi that's a route you can easily take - then once you get the shocks replaced for a matching set you'll really feel the difference.

I wanted to do it all at once but stuff keeps coming up so it gets put back every time.
