    confused 2.0 DTi Oil

My oil low indicator came on yesterday. I have to admit i can't remember when i last checked the level but theres no oil on the floor underneath the car when running or stopped. Its done approx. 5000 miles since i bought it in February (now at 48,000 ish) and i did check the oil once or twice and it was between full and min on the dipstick. My question is does this engine burn oil or should i do some more investigating??

    Thanks for help in advance

    Steve

All engines use a little. Some more than others.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thanks for the help lads. Now this has happened i'm gonna keep an eye on the level. Its full now and i'm gonna get it serviced at 50,000 miles for peace of mind, plus me mate only charges me £50. :-) If its losing loads between now and 50,000 miles i'll have him take a look. Thanks again, anymore ideas r still welcome

Vx will say there is no problem if your motor is using 1ltr in 1000 miles, my dti has 102k on the clock & doesn't use a drop. my old dti did however use a ltr per 2500miles

I did speak to a local vaux tech and he said at low miles the DTi is a bit oil thirsty.

I shouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on it. Check it every weekend or so. Make sure the engine isnt hot, Left over night is your best bet, and it is on a flat surface. This way you will get a true reading as oil thins out when hot.
