Air conditioning HELP!!!!

Hi All

I've just got back from Kwik Fit, had my aircon re-gassed as it wasnt gettin cold. They re-gassed it and said its nice and cold when the engines ticking over, but when reved up the air goes warm, then returns back to cold when ticking over,, they havnt charged me for the re-gass which is good but still no air-con. Has anybody had this before? would it be expensive to replace whichever part has gone, i.e. compressor/condensor...?

I had a similar problem with mine. It turned out that the condesor was damaged and I was quoted £285 + re gas. Managed to talk the dealer into doing it on warranty though

Sorry to hijack but are kwik fit any good at re-gassing i.e if it doesn't work you don't pay?

yea had a few of my cars done by them, if they dont do a sucsesful regas you dont get charged

Thats good, i'm going to get mine done tomorrow as the past two times i've gotten the old "the guy that does it isn't in today" lol

if you disconnect your button and get a regas will they not charge you if it dont work then reconnect the button, not saying that anyone would do this but wonder what they'd do lol

The machine KwikFit use first evacuates the system, then pressurises it. Assuming any pressure drop is within acceptable limits it will fill the evacuate the system again and refill with refridgerant gas.
If any pressure drop exceeds the set limit, it will fail the system and stop there. You will be left with an empty aircon system.

hi mate in response to your post, i replaced the condensor and 2 pipes on my old v6 vec-b, acquired the parts from scrapyard and fitted them myself then got some mobile guy round to do re-gas, cost me £90 altogether. hth
