Default Vectra Stereo having problems reading CDs

    Hi guys,

I've got a NCDC2015 stereo in my Vectra at the moment (factory fitted).

It's currently having problems with the 4 disc mutil changer not reading all the discs that I put in.

It has a cartridge that you put upto 4 CDs in, then put the cartridge in the stereo. The system then reads the discs and shows on screen which out of the 4 spaces have a disc in them.

It's having problems with not reading the properly, and only showing 1 or 2 CDs when infact there are 4 in there.

I've checked that all the CDs are clean, and even changed the order I put them in, but it just seems to pick CDs at random (for example it may say disc 1 and 3 are empty, but when I take cartridge out and put straight back in, it may say disc 1 and 2 are empty.)
Ive tried it with both original CDs and CDRs with same results.

I've tried taking the system apart and stripping it down to and cleaning the lense, and checking there is no dirt or hair caught in there.

I can't find what the problem is.

Does anyone have any ideas, or had this problem, or any idea how to, or how much it will cost to fix?

(The system has a 1 slot CD at top for Sat Nav disc or music CDs, which works ok, and a 4 disc cartridge at bottom which is the part that is messing up).

    Thanks
    Dan

Yes... it was disconnected when I stripped it down.

I guess I'll just have to live with it.
I'd change it to the CD70 but my Vectra won't take it..

Is it just happening on CD-Rs or on originals too?

I had the same problem with my NCDC2013 but only on CD-Rs - it was fine with original discs. I found that if I recorded the CD-Rs at a lower speed (8x in my case) it then read 99% of them -well that was until I put a lens cleaner in and then it didn't recognise anything at all!

You could always buy a CCR2006 and use the bottom cd changer but you will have to swap your pcb board into the new one as this holds the code info, failing that take it to a car radio specialist or have a word with theboy on omega owners he might be able to source some spares for you HTH

Thanks guys - I've tried it with a different cartridge (i have 2) and that didn't work, so I took it into a repair specialist - they reckon it needs a new laser at a cost of £245 &VAT!

if the laser is reading 2 out of 4 discs in the unit then how can they diagnose the laser?? - i would suspect more likely the motorised mechanisim may need lubrication - similar problems with blaupunkt idca09 5 disc changer where the mechanisim is not loading the disc correctly

    hth
