all break fluids are dot 4 so it wouldnt make any different in brands
whats the difference btween DOT 4 and DOT 5.1, keep seeing it but no idea of the differences.
Sorry to disagree but you get dot 3 (not for abs), Dot 4 (more than adequate for normal to fast driving and dot5.1 (extreme). As long as you don't mix synthetic with mineral you'll be ok.
The difference is the boiling points
so is it the density that is different. and would i see any benefits from the 5.1
You will if you intend to drive it REALLY hard or use it for track days
The reason i wanted to upgrade breaks is, on the way to work, normally about 3am on Monday mornings, there is a lane that is just meant to be driven if you know what i mean, normally over the motorway speed and at the end of it you get to a roundabout and its hard braking, i got brake fade one morning and thats why i decided to look at upgrading them. think 5.1 is the way to go for.
Brake fade was more than likely just the pads/discs. For brake fluid to boil you have to be accelerating and braking all the time
cheers for the advice peoples
As John said, to boil the standard DOT4 fluid you'd have to be giving it some serious what for on the track for that to happen - you're more likely to suffer brake fade first with your discs. When I fitted my VXR fronts I contemplated sticking in DOT5.1 but decided it really wasn't going to give any benefits at all, so I just stuck with the standard DOT 4.
