    Thumbs down Blightys roads!

Just got back from st tropez - 10 hours drive each way - sat at 90 (just above their limit) pretty much all the way. Saw two coppers, all the speed camera's are marked with sign posts and we had one 20 min delay the whole time - this was going through lyon which is a big city. 2444 miles i did this week and every minute of it in france was just so easy. The roads are pretty quiet so with the cruise control on, i didnt touch the pedals for hours at a time!

The journey this side of the pond though - devon to dover should be a 4 1/2 hour run. Journey up took 7 1/2 hours due to 3 accidents and numerous road works and gatso's or specs every 2 mins. Journey back took 8 hours due to road works, sheer volume of traffic and a fatal crash on the m5 this afternoon (we were praps 30 seconds behind it happening).

Why do all the muppets want us to believe that anything above 40 mph = instant death when the rest of the world seems to get by just swimmingly.

    Vehicle : Signum

    Trim : Elite Auto

    Engine : 2.8 V6 Turbo

    Year : 2006

    Default Hmmmmm

Standards of driving here in the UK very poor too though (braking distance, speeding, undertaking, lorries pulling out, mobile phones, smoking, mp3 players etc. etc.), that's what causes our accidents.

Our roads are simply overcrowded with ****wits I'm afraid (none on this site I hope though !).

We did 2.5k last september doing the ring and then on to south france for a holiday and worst traffic was going round Paris ring road at 5pm! But yeah, roads are generally quieter, people overtake and then pull back in so you don't get stuck behind some numpty hogging the outside lane.

I missed that accident today, lucky I went down the A303/A30 on way home.

i agree, where my Uncle lives in Spring in Texas. its a local bit of legistlation that no roadworks are to happen during the times of 5 AM to 7PM, and all cones/barriers are to be retracted during this time. he took me to see one night and theve got this big machine that drives along and deployes like this mobile central reservation.

not to state there sensible sized roads as well over there 4 Lanes on both sides are sooo much better. the M6, M1, M5 and all the other major cross country links should be 4 lanes both sides all the way from start to finish.

has anyone else noticed how great everyones road conditions are soo much better than ours as well??? driving across france a couple of months ago, not a single pot hole on the M, A, or B Roads! im glad to see our road tax is spent well! Where does it all go lol!

So true, road we took going to the ring wasn't like that though!

Don't know if anyone been along the honiton/ilminster nit of the A303 lately but that was awful, they have just last week resurfaced it.
