Default Should the Spacesaver wheel be 2" smaller

I notice on my new Insignia which is fitted with the 7 spoke alloys 245/45/18 tyres, that the space saver spare is only 16" diameter.

Does that sound right to you?

Surely the steering is going to pull to one side. I know they are only intended as a tempory measure, but it seems wierd to me.

Is that the space saver including tyre or just the space saver itself?

    hi
the overall size of the spacsaver wheel should be the same.
the wheel is also only to be used for a limited time untill you are able to get the wheel fixed.
and yes they drive like crap. i put a proper steely in my boot.
    hope this helps

I got the size off the side of the tyre which was fitted, IOW on the side of the tyre it states its 16" diameter and not 18" forget what the other figures were, as it was mainly just the diameter I was checking.

Do you think they may have put in the wrong size spare wheel, a question for the dealer obviously.

My vec has a 16inch space saver tyre with a 115/70R16 tyre on it. It looks about 2 inches overall smaller than the standard 17" wheel/tyre. I'm trying to find a full size spare at the moment though as i tow a caravan and don't trust that wheel

The cost saver is smaller, and it doesn't really matter as you are on restricted speed and distance.

My advise would be to NEVER put one on the front positions. ALWAYS swap a rear tyre to a front flat and put the cost saver on the rear. They will not handle the power and steering as well as simply stopping the rear from dragging on the road.

Within the permitted speed limit of 50mph, the car does not sit or steer any differently with a spacesaver on. It's the embarrassment of having a big gap in the wheel arch and the steel rim and yellow label that is the real problem.

If you look in your car manual, it tells you how to fit a full size wheel in the spare wheel well. I've got a spare 17 GSI wheel in mine.

Compare the tyre sizes, not the wheel sizes

At least you have a spacesaver, mine was one of the Vectra C that didn't get one
Instead we get 10 years AA membership, and I've used it once for a puncture
Apparently AA are none too happy at this arrangement, and I get letters every 6 months advising me to upgrade my membership!

although the space saver is a 16" rim, it should have roughly the same rolling radius as your 18" rims
