    Question Retro-fitting OEM xenon headlamps

    Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has been covered by another thread somewhere else...

I've seen plenty of thread about fitting aftermarket HID kits to a Vectra C; has anyone on here fitted or attempted to fit the original Opel/Vauxhall xenon or bi-xenon headlamps to a car that was factory fitted with halogen headlamps?

    Thanks.

Yep, it has been tried and failed mate, it would look like the obvious solution wouldn`t it, but being a vec it doesn`t work out that way *lol*

I know one of the members on here was going to attempt it once he had all the oem parts together. I fitted aftermarket ones at they were a nightmare at first. I'll try and dig out his username, he hasn't been on for a while.

Thanks guys. I'd like to try this, but I'd like to think there's a reasonable chance it will work before I start spending a fortune buying all the bits...

This is something that is always on my mind when driving the Veccy at night.

Greengrowler has done this successfully hasn't he, although they are not Opel/Vaux original ? Interesting that the genuine HID's don't want to play when fitted. Probably Opel/Vaux way of saying 'sucked in, you should have spent the money & got them when purchasing the car'.

There are a mob in the U.S called eurolight.com that do very good HID conversion kits from what I have read. Dare I say it, far better than what you get on flybay. You can only order through the website & they do not sell through any 3rd party such as a store or flybay. I have wanted to get them but haven't yet as there is always that little man in the back of your mind saying "what if.....". I guess for me it comes down to fitting them & then not having to worry about any problems. I have a brother in law that is the muts nuts with all things electrical & almost all mechanical so I should have a chat with him & see what he thinks.

As far as I've been able to gather, the problem with the aftermarket kits is that the body computer pulse width modulates (PWM) the bulb voltage, in order to lengthen the bulb life. For xenon controllers, this needs to be turned off. Apparently this can be done via Tech 2(?).

I expect that this problem would occur regardless of whether OEM or aftermarket lights were fitted.

I have fitted a aftermarket kit not OEM.
The voltage pulse issue is easily over come with the use of a capacitor.
I wouldn't personally like to try explaining to my stealer why I wanted the pulse turned off !

I wonder if they'd be more willing to help if they sold you a whole heap of parts...

Well, I'm sure that would encourage them no end, trouble is, it's not so much their eagerness I would question, but more their ability.
I can just see me trying to explain to them exactly what I want them to do.
I can see the look on the guys face now.
I may as well walk in and ask them for half a pound of bananas !!!
The look I would expect to see is very similar !!!

The way to do it would be to bung a techie a tenner to do it on the sly.
