Default alrm was going off I turned the key and there was smoke from the bonnet?

    First post - Hello all,

    I have just bought a 51 plate 2.2 sri 150.

As the title says I locked the doors using the remote lock on the keys, when I came back to the car I put the key in the door and opened it, the alarm started, I put the keys in the ignition, turned them untill the engine started and there was a loud pop type sound then loads of smoke came out of the far left hand side of the bonnet (around where the lights are).

Now there is an engine fault sign on the dash and the alarm dosent work.

Any ideas? was it a fuse or the alarm burning? I am new to vectras and havent got a clue really.

    Any help would be apreciated.

Have you opened the bonnet and taken a look - a bit of a clue would be needed here in order to give any useful advice, or we are truly guessing.

Sounds like your battery has exploded or your starter motor is knackered.

There is a fuse box down by the front left under the bonnet. Open it up and check the fuses and wires.

Snowman, you got your ears on?

The alarm power sounder on the Vec-B is in the nearside wheel arch behind the plastic splash liner. That's where I'll put my money on where the smoke was coming from.
