    Default Help with Tyres

    Hi all

I've had my vectra just over a year now and the front tyres are in need of replcement. I was just wondering what people are running on theirs and recommendations on the best tyres for my 1.9 cdti. The tyres I have now are 215/45 instead of the starndard 215/50.

    Thanks in advance

The size should be 225/45 or 215/50

    Agreed, correct the size
Go for the 225/45, more choice and cheaper

So let me but in and get this clear in my own head....

My factory standard 2004 GSi alloys, despite being currently fitted with 215/50 R17 Avon ZV3s, are capable of being fitted with a (suitably rated) tyre of the size 225/45 R17 when these Avons die ?

If that's a 'yes' then I'd be seriously tempted to bung on the Star Performer UHP from Mytyres that I put on the 3.0 Omega I used to have. I was very impressed with the performance and wear and they look pretty good too. Not bad at £52.70 a corner, delivered!

I can recommend Vredstein Ultracs, got them on my 1.9 CDTi Sri and they're a vast improvement on the Eagle NCT's it came with.
Good price and good wear and grip. HTH

BTW 225/45/17 is an acceptable replacement for 215/50/17 and is endorsed by Vauxhall.

Yes. Coming from the Uniroyal camp, I have to say the Rainsport 2 in 225/45/17 are amazing. I also looked at the Falken 912 and 452 tyres. Also, you don't need the XL (extra load) tyres on the GSi. IIRC, from a previous post, I should be looking to get 18k miles from the fronts before they get to 3mm tread depth.

    HTH

Falken ZE912s are what I went for recently when I got a pair on the front of my 1.8 Exclusiv and I rate them highly...

Yep, I have to admit, from the TireTest score they must be pretty damned excellent.... but at £125.50 a corner, perhaps a little steep.
