Default 2.0 DTi Running cold and no glow plug light..?

Signum 2.0 DTi, is taking an age to warm up, 5-6 miles, and even then its only getting to 80*,
on the motorway it gets to 90* but it must be a really hot day for this to happen, any ideas...? was thinking thermostat but it might be something else not sure. Or 80 might be the running temp, doing 44mpg around town so not down on MPG.

To note it had to be jump started twice in the last 4 days due to a knackered battery, the previous owner didn;t drive it for a month and it went flat, been going ok since a charge but its finally given up on me this week, battery has now been replaced £66 bargain and its half as big agen as the old one, but can jump starting cause problems because I now have no glow plug light on dash,

How long have you had the car? Is this a new problem. I thought there was something wrong with my 2.2dti warming up when i first got it but everything was ok i.e heater temps
Diesels are quite low temp. engines.

Very rare to see the glow plug lamp through warmer months

3 days, never had a car where the plugs only come on when needed but sounds plausable, doesn't take more that 2 seconds to start thou now with the new battery and it runs fine no lumpy idle (touch wood),

as with the temp, picked it up on Monday when it was 25 degrees outside and it ran at 85-90 motorway on the way back, its not that warm outside now and its running at 80 around town but it takes nearly all my 10 mile trip to reach that,

Had a diesel Rover before, that took a while to warm up aswell, just wonder what temps you guys where running at, and if my was normal.

the glow plugs only come on when the temp drops below 5 C

Mine DTI takes 20-30 mins to warm up to 80 ish so it sounds normal tomemate.

It doesn't sound like anything is wrong. As the diesel engine is quite a large piece of iron, it takes ages to warm up. The motorway temps you mention seem about right, compared to my 1.8 petrol.

Yes motorway seemed ok, just the around town I was worried about but seems I was worrying for nothing.
