Default Diesel Engine Oil Black??? HELP!

    Hi All
Recently bought my new vectra (2004 SRI) and was told that it has JUST been serviced litterally the day before I picked it up,, uppon checking the oil level, found that the oil was BLACK!, I thought that new oil was supposed to be golden brown colour. I did quiz the car sales person aboutt his and he said "Ah, well its because its a diesel you see... the oil goes black straight away"... is this true????? I've only ever owned petrol cars,, always noticed golden brown oil after a change, for at least a month... Not only this but when I checked the oil on the car, there was also a bit too much in,, above the MAX mark,, is this a BIG problem?

    Thanks
    Pete

Totally normal for a diesel's oil to turn black quickly

Also, last time I checked Vauxhall use a tube to suck the oil out as appose to draining it, so the stuff at the bottom of the sump could still be the old stuff...

think it depends on the engine and its service history and the milage to determine how quickly the oil goes black so long as its sreviced regular its not a problem mine gets done once year

Ar. Three diesels, different manufacturers - always the same.

In the four oil changes I've had, and 35k miles I've done I dont think the oil has ever been black in my 150CDTI. If it has turned colour it would be right before an oil change is due.

    Is it possible its 10w/40?
