    Unhappy 2.0DTi - Fuel/startng issues (again)

    Hi all,

Still suffering the problem of Fuel syphoning back and causing starting problems so thinking back to a previous post/thread, someone said to put a non-return valve in the fuel line.

I was thinking about putting one of these

in to the fuel line here

The only problem that I can see is that the inlet/outlet of the valve is 10mm and the flexible pipe is 12mm

Can I pack out the valve stems with heat shrink tube to make a tighter fit ?

Over to you all for help.

    Thanks.

I changed the leak off pipes on my sons car and thought that would be an end to his starting problems after tow starting the car but the engine still didnt want to start after sitting overnight.I then fitted a primer bulb from an outboard engine fuel hose( there is a non return valve built into it) to the fuel return hose and when pumping the bulb to try and draw fuel through from the filter to the diesel pump to the injectors and then back through the leak off pipes to the diesel pump and back to the tank I could hear a sort of sizzling noise from the diesel pump which turned out to be a very small air leak where the new leak off pipe fits onto the small spigot on the diesel pump. Once I realised what this noise was and fitted a very small cable tie around the pipe to make a good seal between the pipe and the small spigot on the pump it was relatively easy to start the car with the key and has given no problem since. So it seems that even the smallest of air leaks on the 2.0/2.2 DTI fuel systems can cause big starting problems.
A bit of a read but it may help someone.

    Angry

Well I found out, that after leaving my car for 15 days on a recent trip to Florida that the fuel was still draining back to the tank

Looks like I will be going through the 'leak off pipes' replacement programme very shortly.

Does anyone know of the VX part no's to make then up ?

Had the same problem on vectra B and non return valve fitted and had no trouble after that.
Have vectra C now and guess what difficult starting. Am thinking of putting in non return valve as near to the tank. I would like to fnow how you got on with your placement.

    Unhappy

    Well this is it fitted

My car had it's annual service recently new front springs too.

Anyhow the mechanic said that the starting problem was down to the fuel filter being incorrectly assembled something to do with a spring not being in the correct place causing an air leak
Well so far I've not had any starting problems (though I haven't parked it facing up a slope for any amount of time either).

    Fingers crossed he's sorted it

Glad to hear you solved your starting problem. Have fitted a non return valve in the same place as you but it's a 12mm one,as you mentioned that the I/d of the hose was 12mm, many thanks for that info.Am also replacing the leak off hoses but they use plastic T pieces to join the hose, guess what, these broke when taking apart, so waiting for replacements and wife not pleased as car unuseable.
As a final pint, the mechic mentioned a spring in the filter housing, I believe this is if you crash and roll the car it turns off the fuel supply.
Well many thanks for the info.
