Default Clicking/Rattling in glove box area

Diving home last night I passed a car who's exhaust was belching out plumes of white smoke.

I hit the switch to change from outside air in to re-circulate interior air and once i switched back there was this loud clicking/rattling which went on very constantly for about 10 seconds then disappeared

Tried switching back and forwards a couple of times to check but it happens every time!

It also happened this morning when I unlocked the doors with the remote fob.

Anyone any ideas? I had thought it obviously something to do with perhaps a motor for switching over the air from external to internal but the door opening scenario has me really confused now!

Any thoughts or experiences with similar?

    Cheers

    Alan

Yes the recirc motor has lost one of it,s teeth. If you do a search you will find the information you need. Have a read of this.

And if you don't sort it (either replace or unplug it) it'll carry on clicking every 20 minutes or so.

Yep seems to be a very common problem.

I paid about £60 trade for mine, and they are a BIT of a pig to fit. Well to get to the screw at the back is anyway.

I think you might have a good idea there. It seems to be a common fault. I will try and do something to sort this out. But if anyone with this problem does a search there is quite a lot of information how to remove both the glove box and the "offending item" the servo motor. from the photo I put up on the " link" it gives a very good idea of what needs to be done. all you need is a lot of patience and dextrous fingers to remove the screw at the back, ( lieing on your back with asmall torch in your mouth it is possible to get the " difficult" screw out.

Anyone know the long term effects of this problem? Mine's been doing this now for a couple of years. I don't use the aircon too often, and apart from the comedy factor when it does it in front of visitors at random, I don't seem to notice any adverse effect. The aircon is still fine (i.e v. cold) and everything else still seems to work OK so I've just left it clickin' !

You could remove the glove box and unplug the "offending" servo motor.............. All will be silent then.

Mmm..Thanks Ed, Could do, but it doesn't bother me and everything still works OK.
What would I notice packing in functionally if I did as you suggest?
