Default Which tyres? - advice please

Guys I have done a search and found a couple of threads discussing similar so apologies if i am going over old ground......

The time has come to replace the two front tyres on my 1.9cdti SRI (215/50/17), so my question is; do I replace them like for like, or save some £££ and get some budget ones?

    Prices seem to be approx:
£260 for the two Goodyear NCT's fitted, or
£110 for two cheapo Wanali S1092 fitted.

    Thanks, Paul

NCT5's - Eeek!! Nooooo. They are overly expensive and offer crap handling.

For starters don't look for the 215/50/17 size. Go for the 225/45/17 alternative. More choice and therefore cheaper.

I (and others) can highly recommend Uniroyal Rainsport2's. Got mine from Camskill for just under £75 each and £10 to have them fitted. However as yours is a diesel, you'll probably need the XL tyres. They were £80.50 each delivered from Camskill when I spoke to them a couple of months ago. They're not listed, so you'll need to phone them for a quote.

Also consider the Falken 912 if you want a budget tyre. They get positive reviews on here as well.

I'd have a look at Mytyres.co.uk, bung in your size and speed rating thentake a look at what they have available. Most of them have a link to the TyreTest rating for that tyre so you can get some idea of dry/wet performance, wear rate, noise, etc.
Federal SS595 show well, as do Sumo Firenza ST-08 and both are under £65 delivered.
    Certainly worth a look.

    Wanli rubber .

This thread http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ighlight=wanli and others on here just about sum these tyres up.

IMO, I'd steer clear of the "cheapies" and echo what Big Dave has said above. Just imagine when it's raining heavily and you want that bit of extra grip or stopping distance . As for the NCT5's, better than Wanli but not by much.

For me, it's Uniroyal Rainsport 2's everytime.

EDIT - just Googled "Wanli tyres" and the results are worrying.

Thanks guys, you have knocked some sense into me and I will be staying well clear of the cheapo options,
I was going to go for the NCT 5's as this set have done 25k miles and "they are what I already have blah blah", are the Uniroyal Rainsport 2's hard wearing and will they do similar millage?

have about 20k out of my rainsports on our diesel and there good for a few more k also, can't recomend them highly enough, great in the wet and the dry and as they are the only thing that keep you on the roadstay away from anything that is made in the prc....
p.s uniroyal rainsports are made by continental

Am i looking at the right tyres.....
    http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ts/sea...de=2254517UN4W

They are a little more £ than mytyres, but i don;t think my current set give me the time to wait for postage and sorting fitting.
Although I am interested in handling, I am more concerned about a long lasting tyre (i had a bad experience with some continental sport contacts in the past), but from your comments it sounds like you get the best of both worlds with these!?

get in touch with a tyre fitter near u and see how much they charge to fit and ballance tyres bought else where then go to camskill and get your self a set of falken ze912 and at £58 per tyre u can't go wrong i've had mine on now for 5000miles and they look and perform like the day they were fitted, very good grip level in wet and dry and although there is a thread on here about them being a harder ride, may well be true in that persons eyes but rest assured they don't feel any worse than nct 5's.alot of guys on here will say the same about these tyres, they really are very underestimated.hth
