    Default Help! Possible EGR Valve

Don't know if anyone can help. I've got a 2003 2.0 Petrol Turbo (Edition 100) just under 60k.

Over the last few days, it has started to become hesitant, and has just now the Emissions light has come on. It doesn't go out after restarting.

After reading various posts, it sounds like it's probably the EGR valve. I'm hoping it just needs cleaning and not replacing. I've always been too cautious to mess with the engine, but don't fancy taking it to the dealers, as they'll probably just replace as opposed to trying to clean it first. I've found posts about cleaning the EGR valve in diesel engines, but none for the petrol turbo.

Where is the EGR valve located, and how do you get it out to clean it. Any help or advice anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I've since discovered the Z20Net doesn't have an EGR valve. I disconnected the batter for 10 mins and reconnected. The light has gone out, and the car has been absolutely fine today. Is it possible it could have just been a one-off software glitch, or maybe a dodgy batch of fuel?

Software glitches don't usually recur on restarting the engine. I'd get it checked out if it comes up again. There again, maybe you've just been driving too slowly LOL

Cheers for the reply. The lights off now, and the code would have been cleared, so I'll wait for it to pop up again, then nip down the dealers.

It's quite ironic you should mention driving slowly. I have always treated my car with respect, but am quite a fast driver. However, over the last 2-3 weeks, I have been trying to drive a lot more gently (thought it would give the engine a break after 5 years of my abuse). Maybe that is something to do with it; I'll have to give it a blast around the lanes tonight!!

    Thanks again for the reply.

My mention of driving slowly was meant as a joke, but it does have an element of truth in it. The Ed100 (or any 2.0T for that matter) is a car that likes and wants to be driven quickly and it just feels less comfortable when deliberately driven at low speed. The harder you push it, the more it wants to respond. There is a lot to be said for giving it a blast at regular intervals.

Emission light has come back on again, and won't go out. It judders at about 2,500rpm while the engine is cold. It's fine once warmed up though. Booked it into dealers for next Tuesday to get the codes red. I really hope it's nothing too serious.

Can't imagine it not being a sensor. If it starts flashing then there's trouble....

I hope so too, mate. Maybe it's coincidental and could be a red herring but 2500 revs is the point at which full torque is reached (i.e. turbo fully spooled).
