Bicknells Worcester closing down

A LONG-STANDING city car dealership is to cease trading at the end of the day, the managing director has said.

The accountants were looking at the books at Bicknells Vauxhall off Cotswold Way, Blackpole, this morning and administrators are due to be appointed later in the day.

John Bicknell, managing director, who has guided the business for 11 years said: “We will cease trading.

“Administrators will be appointed later today. I won’t be taking any calls.”

He added it was for the administrators to answer any questions from customers and they would be making a formal statement later today.

Workers were only told about the administration when they turned up for work this morning.

However, suspicions were raised when staff were paid on Friday - their salaries were not due until the 27th of the month.

The wife of one staff member, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s obviously a shock. They were told this morning.”

I have deepest sympathy for the staff that have lost jobs, but dealers have to learn that if they sell a car and only make £5 profit (after expenses) then it is still a profit. Too many of them just refuse to go the whole way for that sale. The power of the Internet means that not all customers are thick.

yeah, sorry to hear they're losing their jobs. Glad to see a responsible employer that at least made sure their final wages were paid tho.

A sad day for the business & its employees. They were a good dealer too, sales, service & parts guys always willing to help. I never had any bad issues with them over 4 yrs since I got first my Vec B, then traded in for my C last year.

I just found out about 30 mins ago when I went in to the local Malvern branch for EGR gaskets, thought it was strange that the cars had gone from the forecourt and all the employees were in the Parts area.

Just hope that if a buyer comes forward, those in the front line are kept on.

I'm sure it would, I wasn't aware of that one. It's about 25 to 30 mins to get to Evesham from Malvern.

Hopefully, in the medium term, the Bicknells Organisation will be continued as a going concern, if so, there will still be Vx in Worcester but perhaps less likely they'll continue with the small Malvern offshoot.

Only just returned from hols, and I was rather shocked to read your posting about Bicknells going into admin. Ironically I pick up another Insignia on friday, mine's been sold, but thankfully it was ordered this time around from Baylis in Hereford. (same colour but higher spec) I have heard that quite few VX dealerships were giving up their Saab dealerships, but I did'nt realise things were that bad for Bicknells to go under.

Always found them okay to deal with, not had any issues with them anyway, looks like I was lucky not to order the car though them, otherwise I may have been £500 out of pocket. I wonder how the people who have new cars on order with them will get on..?
