confused problem with a peugeot-clunky noise

    Hi there,
Ive got a cdti vectra but my girlfriend drives a peugeot 107 tiptronic and she has a clunky/knocky problem with it. We have posted on peugeot forums but i was just wondering if any of you guys had any ideas. This is what we have posted:
I have a peugeot 107 tiptronic. When i have come to a stop (in traffic, at a junction) and then take my foot off the brake and put it on the accelerator i get a clunky, knocky noise that comes after moving off(usually within secs of starting off again) there will be 2,3 clunks and then it goes, until i come to a stop.
I cant tell really where it is coming from, however it sounds like the front nearside area, but no 100%.
Any body got any ideas, i havent hit it or had anything changed it just started doing it. It seems worse when there are less people in the car. I was thinking perhaps ABS sensor, suspension, or gearbox/engine mount moving.what do you reckon????Also someone suggested balljoint or droplink, what do you reckon? driveshafts?

I am stuck as to what it could be. It doesnt happen all the time, however it is getting more and more frequent and it doesnt happen once the car gets above about 5/10mph and doesnt do it going around corners or anything.

Any help would be much appreciated
    Josh

I would be going with a snapped spring or a worn mount as you had guessed. I would expect if it were the mount for it to happen at higher speeds too. Have a look at the springs and bounce the car.

Do you hear it going over speed humps?

what i normaly do is get some1else in the drivers seat and get them to slowly start /stop while i lay next to the car to pinpoint the problem the way i test ball joints and steeering joints is to put a brick in front and behind the front tyre 1 at a time with about 1" gap from the tyre lay next to the wheel in testing with the handbrake off just rock the car against the brick and look at the joints also feel the joints for movement good for pinpointing a worn joint hope u sort the problem let us know how u get on

    hi,
i forgot to add that it has only done 17000 miles/55plate.surely a mount or bushing cant have worn in this time.?the thing is everytime we try the listening whilst outside the car idea, it decides it doesnt want to play and doesnt make a noise. annoying. Will try and give the other ideas a go 2moro. if its a sticky caliper how do we test/rectify this?
    thanks alot guys

oh, it doesnt make a noise going over speed bumps and doesnt rattle or anything whilst driving. my vec c springs went a couple of weeks ago and you could hear it going over every little bump.

another quick look finds that peugeot 107's dont make a "auto" the vehicle is fitted with a 5 speed manual gearbox that has been fitted with "adaptive" control system that makes it drive similar but not identical to an autobox - the clunking noise you hear is generic of this type of fitting
