Default 2.2 petrol oil filter packaging

Can anyone tell me what sort of packaging does the oil filter come in.

Reason for asking is that I can't work out why the black part was dirty like all the surrounding pipes etc. after a service when the oil was changed.

Does it come in a sealed bag etc.

When I worked at Vw years ago, some were boxed, others had no packing at all. Don't know if VX do the same.

If no packaging then the exposed filter element (not can type) would be dirty. Don't want to go back all guns blazzing if it was changed. Was dirty though but I've now cleaned it.

i may be completly wrong here, and it has been known,

but i think ( on my 2.2 oil burner ) that the oil filter is contained within the part you can see, like the old days of just changing the element, and not the whole ' can '

    prolly wrong tho

It's not a cartridge one is it? If so the outside is the same bit as before the service, so would be dirty.

    Snap!

Yes, it is a cartridge, so the whole of the outer see's the oil.
Its only a tiny thing though.

I make filters and reckon that this is undersized and will only last (filtration wise) 3 months before it is blocked, you could theoretically clean it by washing it in parafin, but I wouldn't bother. So I'm changing my oil & filter every 3 months from now on.
