    Default Insurance PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Need some advice guys have a read and let me know what you think….

Back in January while travelling clockwise on the M25 I was hit by a Polish HGV, well when I say hit it was more of a push as I think the drive may have fallen asleep….. I was in lane 2 and was almost past the wagon in lane 1 when I suddenly found the back of the car being push sideways in to lane 3 steering in to try and correct was fine until the driver realised what was happening and he pulled back in to his lane….. at this point I was at a 45 degree angle which caused me to do a complete 540 degree spin across all 5 lanes ending up facing the wrong way in the fast lane…..

Everyone managed to stop without hitting me including some guy in a Honda that managed to stop all of an inch from the front of my car (he looked more scared than I did).

Having got all the details from the non-English speaking driver including the green card insurance and the details of his company from the wagon i did a little investigating and got more details about the company and contacted my insurance company (More Than) spent 50 mins on the phone going through all the normal stuff.

The car was repaired within 4 weeks under my fully comp policy and I can’t complain about the service from the garage in fact it has been the only service I have had. I have never had any letter or phone call from More Than with regards to the claim or even that they have acknowledged the claim. I have phoned them on 5 occasions asking what is going on and every time I have been told “oh it just needs to be sent over to recovery”. The last 2 calls I have requested to speak to a manager and have been told that no one was available….. Im currently out of pocket by £250 (excess) and my renewal is due in 6 weeks…. Because of the above I don’t want to renew with More Than but will I every get my money back if I don’t and where do I stand with my no claims bonus?????

In my experience you will get your money back, but it can take up to a year to settle it by the time Legal Assistance gets finished. You will lose your no claims unless its protected until it is settled in your favour. Nothing you can do about that.

Also your bonus will be on the renewal, if you wish to go elsewhere for a policy you can use that as proof.

Good luck getting the Xcess back, dont give up on it thats what they want you to do, not that i think you would anyway.

Personally I'd stay with them, they are a big company, they wont want bad press and eventually everything will balance up.

Arent they Norwich Union? if so you got no worries, i've used Norwich before and found them very good, right up to the point they didn't want cabs anymore, Royal Sun did the samething.

I hope you fair better than a close freind of ours.. She got hooked up by a swerving Dutch HGV driver and pulled up the QE2 bridge at dartford sideways.. Thankfully no-one injured but the car is a mess.. the dutch guy left his details and went on his way.. Now they deny it ever happening and she's down 1 car with little hope of recovering anything as he denies ever being on that road etc.. No police were called so it's his word against her and her witness.. 12 weeks into the claim now and they still won't admit liability.. Now the insurance Co want her to renew her policy on the car..But it's scrap..

Hope you get on better Dazza.. Gut feeling tells me this renewal will be a corker..

Always, contact the police (or at least get a photo) if taken out by a foreign lorry, so many of them round here M20 and 25. You never know if they are insured etc and you will need all the help you can to get a satisfactory outcome.

Sounds like the classic blind spot problem to me. Try getting in touch with Vosa, they may be able to help trace the company and the driver.

If you are renewing, the claim will need to be technically settled, otherwise you may find that the renewal quotes will be sky high. If you stick with More Than, then at least they should know how to view the claim. I would suggest that when renewal time comes around, give the renewals dept a call and tell them that you would like to renew, but due to the poor service you have received so far with your excess, then you feel that you must go elsewhere - watch em jump after asking "how high sir?"
