    Default 2.2 direct timing chain

    Hi,

I have an 06 55reg 2.2 direct sri, yesterday the timing belt started rattling big time, I took it straight to the main dealer in Bristol. The workshop forman had a listen and advised me not to drive the car as it was the timing chain. I bought the car in april 07 with 12,000 mls on, when it had just been serviced by the dealer (book stamped). It now has just hit 20,000 and I have had it services once a year since then with genuine vx parts. unfortunatly to try and keeps costs down I have had it serviced by a machanic mate and have not had the book stamped. How do I stand now . The car was 3 years old in feb of this year.

Depending how far off the service is - ie if its only just over due - should have been done at 20k and its now on 22k even though it was serviced by your mate - then I would hope it will be ok. If they think its missed a service then you may have a fight on your hands as its all part of keeping the warranty up. Even so, with that milage I would hope VX would at least help with the costs.

If they don't then its an expensive lesson learnt on keeping costs down!

I have my fingers crossed for you mate
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

if im not mistaken the 'chain' is a common problem with this engine so vx should at least help with the cost

should last a lot longer than that

Just get your mate to stamp it and put your dates in!

My old Vectra had the same problem, but when they identified the problem they said it would be ok to drive, just noisy and it managed a trip from Widnes to Milton Keynes and back twice!

That was with the earlier ones with the dodgy oil nozzle, the directs should have had this fixed. Still very odd at such a low milage.

I can get receipts for all the parts used as we have a drive vauxhall account where i work and if I pay cash I can get it vat free. so will receipts for parts help. I think the last service was about 2 months ago, so going on what my average mileage a month is it was about 600mls ago. I just wonder that becuase if the state of the economy at the moment if VX will try and use the service book as a excuse to get out of helping at all.

The tensioner or one of the guides has failed by the sound of it. You'll find it hard to get any cash out of Vx without a fully stamped book, but fingers crossed.

if it's 55 plate it's out of warranty - 3 years OR 60k, whichever you hit first. Hopefully they would contribute -something- though, as that's not many miles at all.

Didn't read the 1st post correctly where he stated it was 3 years old in Feb. Being older than 3 years and not having a full service history its looking more and more likely they may wave goodbye.

I got 50% out of vx for some work at 3 years and 6 months old but only because it was 45k and had a full vx service history stamped in the book.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
