Default Advice wanted for buying a Signum CDTI 150

    Hello all

Done a few searches and its not looking good to be honest, can any one make it better?

Found a VERY nice 4 year old Signum 05, 1.9 CDTI (150) not local to me, mileage is 140 odd K with full V service history, last service 130K waiting for some scanned docs so I can have a read through whats been done but its looks very good, ex company rep car done just less than 40K a year since new, my first thoughts were its got sat nav, leather, park sensors, cool box and everything else shiny I've just got to get it.

My thoughts about the mileage and engine were nice 150bhp, its a diesel goes for ever, mileage not an issue I do less than 10K a year, I'm not going to add massively to the score, it wouldn't of got to that mileage unless it had been looked after so servicing has done its job, and after reading some threads that seems to be the case with the mileage, cambelt will of be changed at some point, so it was all looking good and I was looking forward to picking it up.

Now I've done some searches on here and I'm not sure what to do.

I know that these forums are full of problems with cars, thats what we use them for, but with these CDTI 150 engines being put in Astras, Vectras, Signums by the thousand they can't be bad, can they.? I've read too many threads advising against the 150 but I don't want a 2.2 DTI because of the tax and I can't find a 120 with what I want,

I am expecting to clean the egr valve every year or when it plays up, I like getting my hands dirty and am quite confident with most things, I've had diesels before and there isn't one yet that doesn't play up. I use millers diesel power plus and want a nice flash family car to last me a few years, I don;t want a money pit that I wish i've never bought. I feel with the mileage the one I'm interested in has done its got to be a goodun, and not a badun that have caused the problems.

    Any advice...?

Had mine (06 1.9CDTi 150 SRI Estate) a year now, taken the mileage from 37k to 47k, no issues yet. I would not hesitate to recommend. However, the car that never has any problem in it's life hasn't been invented yet & there are lemons in every pile.

So, it's not to say I will never have a problem & see if I'm still saying this next week when I will be the other side of it's first MOT.

If someone asked me what car never to buy based on my personal experience and that of friends with similar cars - well I would say, without hesitation, any Diahatsu but I'm sure there are many who will have been quite happy with many trouble free miles in such cars. The one I had (a Fourtrak), from 3k to 40k miles, over 3 yrs from 1990 to 1993, by the time I had done the first 10k in that, there was already a list of problems longer than one's arm. By the time I got rid, if I hadn't been able to do my own maintenance & repairs, the cost of all the faults would have been over 1/3 of the £13k I paid for the car at 3 months old.

Perhaps I will start a " What's your worst car ever" thread.

i wouldnt go for a high mileage car again,i bought a 06 zafira 1.9cdti with
117k miles with full vxl history,1 owner i`ll be honest though its a nice car
with loads of options BUT ive had it 7 weeks and the gearbox, clutch, flywheel
packed in few weeks ago, luckily ive got good contacts through dealer and
    they looked after me.

so if i was you i wouldnt get a high mileage car unless its got a damn good
    warranty.

If you're only doing 10K a year mate, why do you need a diesel...? And Maverick, I second and third that...

But IMO, there's nothing wrong with the engine itself...
