    Question Oil Change Info Please

Hi to all Vectra C owners,

time to save some cash I think, so Iv'e got to do a car service myself.
Something I have not done in some years, and as I now work part-time at a Motor Parts shop ( Staff Discount ) on parts is great.

I also kept all my Snap-on tools from my Karting days, so with help of a Haynes Manual I am going to get my hands dirty again.

However can someone tell me the size of ( Sump-Plug & Oil Filter Housing ) nuts, my Vectra is a Feb 07 1.9cdti ( 120bhp ) Exclusiv.

    Thank's, Andy H137

32mm for the oil filter housing - a moulded hexagon on the end of the housing. Can't remember exactly for the sump plug, I just selected the correct one from my socket set but IIRC, 14 mm or thereabouts.

I'd get yourself a new sump plug before you start aswell, they are not dear. Mine was chewed to bits trying to get it off as the hexagon is smaller in diameter than the sealing face and I ended up chiselling mine off as posted on here.

did my CDTI the other week, 32mm on oil filter housing, access is quite restricted. I managed to reach mine over the top of the engine bay, you can get more turn on the ratchet that way. Only partly undo the filter housing, theres a drain off spout. Let it empty the filter housing before you complete remove it. The oil will drip onto the exhaust so throw some rags onto the exhaust pipe.

The oil sump is a 13mm socket, but these can round off quite easily, so replacement is a good idea, last time i did it i had to whack a 12mm socket over the top of it. When you tighten it up its not supertight only 20nm.

sump plug is 13 mm i would always use hexagon socket rather than multipoint, much less chance of rounding it off .(use a bar dont whack it!)
oil filter is 32 i think , messey things they are . i have only changed them on a ramp and that is awkward enough, i use a spanner but you can only move it a little at a time with oil dripping down your arm and all over the exhaust , you can just crack it open and take off the rubber bung and let oil out of filter housing but this seems to take ages and you still get the oil all over the exhaust etc,i prefer to get the filter out as quick as poss to get the mess over and done with .

    have fun..
