Default Had to do CPR this morning :(

Heard a loud thud this morning at 0845 and looked out the window to see my next door nieghbour running up the path, she told me her husband had collapsed so I ran in, seen him unconcious on the floor and grey looking, he wasnt breathing so I started CPR, his wife rang 999 and they were talking down the phone but thankfully being first aid trained I knew what to do. Although I never thought i'd put it into practice. The paramedics arrived but asked me to continue with CPR so they could do other checks, they tried De-Fib but no joy so they gave him 2 shots of adrenaline. In the end after 30 mins they took over and continued CPR into the ambulance. I had to go to work and have been worried all day but I have come home tonight to hear he has sadly died at the age of 66. I just wonder if I did enough, the paramedics said I did well but its a doubt ill have I guess.

Sorry I just had to get it off my chest.

you gave him a greater chance of survival by doing cpr till the paramedics arrived without any doubt ...but when your times up , your times up

if you ever have any doubts then please feel free to pm me and i'll send you my mb no and we can have a chat -

never ever doubt what you have done -

just think if you hadnt been there - he would never have made it to hospital if they could not save him and they are the experts - you could have done no more than you did.. remember that

I am a first aider too. You did your best. I Had what must be the worst situation to go through. My mom had a heart attack. I did CPR. But sadly she died too. So I more so know how you feel. I think it is a good thing to be first aid trained. You never know when you might save a life.

Sorry to hear that mate, a similar thing happened to me years ago at a kids football match. Unfortunately life is not like the films and sometimes it is just the poor victims time to go. At least you were able to do something, a lot of others would have been running about like chickens with no heads.

Thank you all for your replies, his daughter has just called in to thank me which was nice to know. I just did what any first aider would in that situation, unfortunately this time nothing more could be done.
