Default Fitted hids and have a slight malfunction!

Yesterday we fitted a HIDS direct 35w 6k vectra c kit to my car all went well apart from when i was driving home i went to turn up the stereo from the steering wheel controls and nothing happend?I have an aftermarket alpine H/U fitted with the steering control harness fitted. When i was conecting the battery back on i got a few biggish sparks from the negative terminal and think i may have blown a fuse has any one had the same prob?Does the steering wheel have a fuse for the controls also the lights on the steering wheel buttons are still on so im a bit confused to what is going on any help or sugestions would be great guys..

    Cheers Stuart.

To be honest mate, I'm not sure how the HID's could effect the stereo. A spark or two is normal when reconnecting the battery in my experience, but the fuse would be the first thing I'd check as it's the easiest...

I've just installed an alpine unit in my vectra using the autoleads adapter. The instructions were very specific about leaving the steering control jackplug unplugged to start off with. I had to plug the stereo into the harness, turn on the ignition, store a station, turn off ignition, plug in jackplug then turn on the ignition again ad make sure the remote controls work and the station is still stored. Maybe having the battery disconnected for a while means you have to go through this process again?

Have you tried using the steering wheel controls with your HIDs switched on ?

Why did you disconnect the battery anyway?

Ah ok that sounds like it may be worth a try mate cheers for that

The battery was disconected because it was removed to make it easier to get access to the back of the lights!

The adapter that I used was for an '06 car with full CANBUS though, so it may not apply to yours. Could still be worth a try.

The previous poster is correct about the Autoleads adapter. There is a specific way it all has to be connected back up after disconnecting the battery. I have done it in the past and maybe had to try it 3 or 4 times till it all worked okay but I'm sure it is nothing to do with the HIDs you just have to get the sequence right when connecting the stereo. Try giving the lead manufacturer an email to see if they can help.
