    Default incorrect postage on parcel...

when i got home from work lastnight the postman had put a royal mail card through the door, on it says i have to go and pay £3.24 inc £1 handling fee to get this parcel.when i have looked further into it,it turns out its for the megs endurance tyre shine that i bought from ebay last sunday, which was a total of £7.99 inc £1.99 standard rate postage.
have already emailed the seller, would you go to the sorting office bend over and pay the excess postage?,hope the seller has made a genuine mistake and refunds the £3.24?,or just leave the parcel at the sorting office and report seller?

I would go and pay it. Then mail the seller with a picture of the receipt and postage on package. If they don't refund go through paypal.

Surely something that size would have gone over the counter at the post office, maybe the label has fallen off in transit, unfortunate for all, maybe the seller has proof of postage otherwise make a paypal claim against them.

I'm currently making a claim against the PO for some lost VX badges I posted to one of the guys but never turned up

This happened to me with a birthday card.

Was 10p over the first class stamp, got charged the 10p and a £1 handling charge.

There was no birthday money in the card

The usual cause of this is using the eBay UK / PayPal method of paying for postage
As a result the item is not measured or weighed, but the seller is supposed to ensure the postage paid is correct OR go to the Post Office before posting to ensure that enough has been paid

Personally, I wish eBay UK / PayPal would add an option so that the buyer can decline items sent using this method, therefore the seller MUST go to the Post Office

An alternative is to request that the item is sent by Royal Mail Recorded or Special Delivery

However, if the sender has been to the Post Office and additional postage has to be paid, then the Post Office would be at fault
Both the sender and recipient can then claim by sending a copy of the postage receipt and surcharge receipt on form P58

I've had to do it few times now
Added to that, requesting Recorded delivery and receiving items sent without...
Strange how these always go missing in the post

dont pay, let it go back to the seller and them pay the fees. you ask for a full refund and leave poor feedback. and then go to some where a lot better to deal with
