    Default Advice Needed

I'm after a few products but don't know where to start as I'm not realy into this detailling stuff. I want something to clean all the crud off my car i.e some shampoo or something and hten I'm after a wax or polish to protect the paintwork from the elements. Also a decent wheel cleaner and something to bring the black bits of trim up nice. With all the brushes, sponges etc I don't realy want to spend more than £50 for the lot.

If your wanting to reduce costs per use then you need to buy in bulk, Im not talking 25L drums but 5L or 1 US gallon they will seem expensive to buy but work out cheaper than going buying a £6 bottle of shampoo that will last you 5 or 6 washes the 5L will last you a lot longer. or you could get the ultra concentrated stuff but that is almost as expensive as the bulk stuff.
Bulk stuff you could try Meguiars shampoo plus or Hyper wash both are decent shampoos.
Not bulk but very concetrated are Dodo juice born to be mild or Bilt Hamber autowash.

Trim dressing you can go 2 routes again, buy Gtechniq C4 which will last 2 years with a single application £24 for 15ml stupidly expensive but it lasts a long time or the stuff that you apply often and doesn't last very well maybe a few weeks if your lucky.

Cloths £15 gets you 36 microfibres from costco

Applicators most online suppliers have single applicators for £1 each, I know tesco sold packs of 3 blue microfibre ones for £1 at some point in the last few years.

I would take a look at Bilt Hamber they have some offers on for kits that do most of what your looking for offers page I would look at the FULL CAR CLEANING AND CARE KIT for £28 auto wash is the shampoo, auto clay is a clay bar for removeing contaminants and autobalm is a protectant like a wax but has filling properties to hide swirls which on a blue car can be a good thing.

Leaveing you with £22 for trim dressing and wheel cleaner, very cherry from Autobrite or bilberry from vallet pro are decent. I have no recomendations for trim really I use Gtechniq C4 on mine and family cars, freinds cars I use Autosmart Highstyle only available in 5L for about £20 its not fantastic life wise but it leaves a nice finish but it is great as a tyre dressing. There is also Blackwow but again its £20 for about 120ml good but expensive and doesnt last as long as C4

So what else may you need,
spray bottle for wheel cleaner, you could buy one or just use one you save from a household cleaner oven cleaners have more resistant spray heads on them.
2 buckets £1 each in Asda or B and Q
wash mitt lambswool helps prevent swirls about £6
Wheel brush? Lidl have a paint brush set every so often it has 4 round and 4 standard brushed in the 2 larger round brushes are great for wheel faces and the rest can be used for interior. tape the metal bits up on the flat brushes first.
Dressing applicators, get a pack of sponges from Asda with the scourer on the back 14p for 5 I think, use once and bin them.

I'm not very good at working to a budget and always spend more than I should but the above are all decen products that will help enhance your car's appearance.

Little John, that's great thanks very much for that. I've had PM from Autobrite about this and I'm going to have a look at what they recommended aswell. He did recommend me a bucket for £18 quid though which I think is a bit steep if I'm honest! I will let you know what I go for and how I get on!

The meguiars buckets with grit guard I take it, grit guards do work, but unless your paint is perfect and not swirled then its sort of a waste of time. The use of a lambswool washmitt, the 2 bucket method with regular rinseing of the mitt and cleaning the car the right way so you don't go rubbing the dirt in to the paint it is possible to get away with just a £1 builders bucket. The problem with black buckets is you cant see the grit in there, B&Q sell orange buckets which are a lot better. Autobrite have some clear buckets with grit guards on their way, clear makes it even easier to see the dirt in the bucket but They havnt anounced a price of those yet. or put them on their site they were waiting for the grit guards last I heard.

well poundland/B&M/wilkos for microfibres, (got a drying cloth, 5 applicators (in a pack) & a microfibre wash mitt for a total of £3 last week) also tesco/Wilkos/morrisons do APC such as daisy for around a £1, buckets/sponge are cheap enough from them as well.

regarding wax/polish etc I suppose everyone tries a few different ones & sticks with whats best for them. Halfords do 3 for 2 every so often, but try this link..

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79364&highlight=ebay

for wheels imo you cannot beat wonder wheels, best price is Morrisons around £5 but be careful as it is harsh, I also get my shampoo from there, cant remember the name but its normally 100% xtra free. Plenty of glass cleaners out there as well, I am using Mr Muscle atm. problably best to go though the detailing thread - that will not only give you a headache but aslo help you spend your ££

I like the idea of clear buckets, may make me go down the 2-bucket route if the proof is there to see! will look at the orange ones in B&Q, presume you can see though them ?

oh, Pics of nice shiny clean car when done pls!
