Default broken springs are a joke!

I really feel for you guys that have had this and am touching wood right now (not my own).
What I dont understand is how this can happen and how often. Are people having this sorted as part of warrantees or are you forking out?
I was down my local dealers yesterday talking to a master tech guy and he was mentioning it as if there was no problem or no real cause.... I confessed i had changed mine to aftermarket ones after vauxhall dismissed my warranty claim of knocking front suspension. When i removed the old springs, the coating on them was all pitted and the actual spring was damaged what caused this i thought, then as i looked at the strut mount bolts i could see that paint ect was on the bottom of the bolt. So under slow speed compression (when you get most travel) the spring was making contact with the bolts . Please tell me guys that you asked to see or keep your springs because it would be interesting to see if this was happening more often.
When i looked at my new springs they were slightly wider and kept away from the bolts. Now i have nice smooth suspension, and a little less faith in vaux.

I looked at mine (which failed at the bottom) and didn't see any contact marks on the top, so mine wasn't hitting the bolts.

Most appear to fracture at the bottom, about 1/2 a turn in, where is starts to change coil diameter.

Are vaux paying for replacements because this sounds like a recall issue.... My dealership are saying that loads are failing and people are forking out. Even for 1 at a time!!!!

VX don't sell single front springs, they only do them in pairs. The retain cost for standard springs is about £175 a pair - £108 with trade club discount.

Or you can do as most do on here and spend about £160 ish on a full set of Eibach springs which are much stronger and improve the handling at the same time without compromising the ride

Ok, so its not the small fault i had leading to bigger things then. It is mightiliy bad as i've never heard of this before i saw it springing up on this forum. Obviously a gm fault, so why are people paying for replacements?

I was talking to the MOT tester last friday about broken springs. He said it is very common for them to break nowadays. Not only on Vauxhall cars. But a lot of other makes too. It seems that it is something that has only come about in recent years, as I can not remember ( nor could he) springs braking on the "older" cars from say 8-10 years ago. I wonder if the quality of the materials is not as good as it could be??.
