    Default 2.0 petrol turbo blown

hi all, just been told that the clouds of smoke out of the back end was the turbo saying bye bye to the engine. car has been faultless untill this happened. the only thing that has recently changed is that i pulled a caravan (yes i know shed draggin) for the first time 2 days before. book says weights ok but i was wondering if this would have caused or contributed to the turbo blowing and if it is likley to happen again when fixed. thanx all. D

Don't know, but a standard 2.0T has more torque than a 2.0DTI and similar torque to a 2.2DTI and a 1.9CDTI 120 all of which would be regarded as suitable for towing.

Same thing happened to my old Renault 21 turbo.3 years of fairly reliable motoring (it was a Renault) and then you hook up a caravan and hey presto shagged turbo.

Unlike diesels it's necessary to use the lower gears more and also more revs, which leads to heat build up under bonnet (even though temp guage says not) which leads to blown turbo.

Not ideal choice of engine for towing stuff.
