Default This Story makes me ashamed to be British.

Just came across this story which upset me very much indeed, a disabled couple aged 91ys and 89yrs have been told they are not disabled enough to receive Coventry Councils Meals on Wheels Service.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ls-wheels.html

What the hell is this country coming to, when we cannot look after our own elderly people. These meals are not free, they may be subsidised, but they still cost the pensioner £4.10 each.

The husband served in the Royal Warwickshire's Regiment in WW2 and this is how the country treats him when he wants a little help.

    I find it totally disgusting.

Agree, there is no respect for the elderly in this Country. Old age is seen as a cost that should be minimised regardless of the individuals involved. Age discrimination is the norm and not the exception.

Similar attitudes seem to prevail for military veterens as well

    Here, Here

I totaly agree m8 & the following says it as I think .........
Once again, our old folk are totally overlooked by the overpaid public sector workers. All they are asking for is a hot meal, is that too much to ask? They are even prepared to pay for it, not sponge off the taxpayer. Shame on Coventry City Council.

I shouldn't joke, but the old couple should have become MP's then they could claim it back on expenses at the tax payers cost instead of their own

It really caused me to shed tears, it upset me so much.

Needless to say, I've left a strong message on the Mail site, and also sent a email to the Royal British Legion, who I'm fairly certain will get that decision reversed, and to No.10. can only do some good I hope.

This country bends over backwards to welcome and help people coming to live in this country, but we cannot look after our own elderly when in need. Remember, this old couple may be us one day. My wife and I are already pensioners, but thank god we dont yet need help.

The elderly gentleman helped this country when it needed help in WW2, and we treat him like this, it makes me sick.

The little **** of a council official who turned them down for the odd hot meal should be instantly sacked.

I have sent Coventry meals on wheels an email, here is a copy.

I have read with shame that a Coventry couple have been refused meals on wheels.

Who within the Coventry social care was responsible for such an unjust, perverted and downright shameful decision?

This story is the one I refer to. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ls-wheels.html

What an absolute affront to decent society, I am totally disgusted with this extremely poor decision.

I had the mis placed belief that social care was available to all and that the people who fought during world wars would get a better standard of support in their later years. If it was not for people like this, who sacrificed everything for the country, the very people who used extremely poor judgement in this case may not even be alive or hold a job at the tax payers expense.

I wonder if normal expenses would have covered this sort of meal costs for the 'official' involved?

Please respond in detail to each and every point raised.

    I await your detailed response.

I sent it to the email address listed on Cov city council website - SSH.HomeMeals@coventry.gov.uk

I may be a complete numpty at times, but I know the difference between right and wrong, and that story is so wrong that it almost creates a new category of its own.
