You certianly can do 2 at a time mate as long as their on the same axle..ie rears first.
do the rears first as they are wider..wont upset the handling.
thanks mate
My 225/45/17's are on the front. The 215/50/17's are still on the rear.
If anything the handling has improved because I got shot of the NCT5's that were on the front. You're talking a marginal size increase, at the end of the day it won't matter which end of the car you fit the wider tyres to.
As for a recommended tyre, try Uniroyal Rainsport2's.
thanks big dave
Changed the fronts on my siggy last week, Hankook Ventus V12 evo's from Camskill for £62 each. Spot on! Really good tyre so far, not tried them in the wet yet
My 215/50/17s are getting a bit low and after reading all the threads on this am thinking of replacing them with 225/45/17s instead. Folk had said in other posts that 225/45/17s fit on the rims fine but I'm struggling to understand how this can be the case.
As I understand it the first figure is the width of the tyre in mm so the 225s are 10mm wider than the 215s. If you don't change the wheels then how can a tyre 10mm wider still fit? Do the rims have a very wide tollerance for what tyres can fit on them?
Tyres are made of rubber which has quite a bit of play in it mate. The rim is a standadrd size, it's just the tyre that expands to fill in the width of the rim. If you look in your handbook, you'll find both sizes mentioned, meaning you can use either.
Someone on here has fitted 255 width tyres...
Here's my Vectra with 225/45/17 fitted at the front, and 215/50/17 on the rear:-

Honestly mate, 225/45/17 will fit your rims.
