    Default 2.2 direct probs

    Hi ,
My 2.2 direct estate '04 has developed a fault . it was serviced on saturday.

for last 2 days i had spanner and car light pop up after a brief hesitation . pulled over on both times ,turned off car and restarted and light wasnt on .book says if light goes out probably a blip . (happened once yesterday and twice today)

today on seconf occasion the engine (emmission control light popped on solid when spanner car light came on for 2nd time today (approx 100 miles from 1st one) . emmission light stays on , and car seems to run rough and sounds a bit like a boy racer . seems to go reasonably well but not like it was . garage i bought from 3 weeks ago is going to have a look on thursday . and put it on computer .

could it just be exhaust gone as was starting to sound throaty for a week before this happened , surprised it wasnt picked up in service .

any one got any clues . i don't have a code reader , it's on my shopping list .

Sounds like the high pressure fuel pump, the computer will report either it or the fuel regulator is at fault. expensive item, so make sure the garage pay for the work to be done.

I would insist that both are replaced with the past history of these items plenty of evidence including 'BBC Watchdog' hth ...........

Best to get the codes read first.

Swirl valves can be changed so I have been told ~£200+.

mine was all done under a warranty but off the top of my head i'm sure the service team said about £1400 so not cheap and considering these are very very common problems i don't think it's very acceptable on vx part.
