    Default Vectra primer

My blue veccy is just starting to get the odd stone chip on the bonnet, and for a blue paintjob the undercoat/primer is WHITE!!!! this shows up the stone chips terrible making them look like stars in the night sky.Why is'nt the primer light blue or similar , any paint experts know the reason ?

don't ask why but the first coat in any assembly shop i've been to is white.. it helps them to spot any defects in the panelwork easier.. When the paint chips it just seems to go down to this layer..

My Black Sapphire one being a case in point. The amount of stonechips on the front makes it look awful. The whole front needs respraying really.

Yep, tis is my biggest bugbear with my otherwise beautiful girl - her spotty front end!!! Drives me mad that the undercoat is white, but as above is intended to show flaws in the finish before painting.

I am seriously fancying the idea of carbon fibre filming the bonnet, which should go some way to protect (as well as making me look like Mrs Max Power!! )but I reckon the bumper is just going to have to be completely resprayed

Agreed the front on my blue including the wings all needs respraying. When I wash the car I can hardly be bothered to do the front. If you get a massive chip it does go to black which is the galvernising I think.

    It is a shame

Due to our demands for nice shiny cars and colours that really POP in sunlight, manufacturers are using lighter primers and undercoats to reflect light back up through the paint finish.
