Default Battery in key died, now it needs reprogrammed??

on thursady night the battery in my key died & an alarm came up on the dash,
Mrs took it to vx today to get a new battery but locks etc work inconsistantly, she was told it would need reprogrammed for £25 due to the amount of time it was dead,
Surely nearly 5 days without a full batt shouldnt need reprogrammed?
    What can i do?

open the doors with the key so the alarm goes off. jump in quick and turn on the ignition, just to the second click. pres the door open button on the key fob and the doors should lock then re-open pretty much straight away. job done all set again! HTH, mick.

Depends on the year of the car. There are two different procedures depending on which handbook you look in. One of them is mentioned above. The other below:-

The other way is to unlock door with key in lock. Inserting the key into the lock synchronises the remote control.
